Root Canal Therapy

What Is a Root Canal?

A root canal is a very common dental procedure. It can help preserve your natural teeth and prevent the need for bridges or dental implants down the road. Root canals are designed to help eliminate bacteria from an infected root canal. These treatments also work to prevent reinfection from occurring.

Pulp is located at the center of your tooth and can become infected from trauma to the tooth, cracks and chips, deep decay, or repeated dental procedures. A root canal involves removing the infected pulp and thoroughly cleaning and sanitizing the affected area.

We can apply local anesthesia to aid with pain management. We also have sedation dentistry for those who are anxious about dental procedures.

How Do I Know If I Need a Root Canal?

Signs of dental infection can include visible swelling of the gums, intense pain in the gum or tooth area, bleeding, and sensitivity to temperature. If you are experiencing any of these signs, please contact our offices as soon as possible to schedule an appointment.

What Happens After My Root Canal Treatment?

After your root canal is completed, schedule another general dentist appointment so Dr. Kahn can assess how the area is healing and determine if any more treatment is needed.

It is rare for patients to experience complications after the procedure. Rest assured our office will take every precaution to ensure the procedure is done correctly with a focus on comfort.

How Much Does a Root Canal Cost?

The cost of getting a root canal done at Sweet Tooth Smiles depends on a number of factors including the severity of infection, how much surface area of your mouth is infected, and which tooth is infected.

We accept most major dental insurance providers and have flexible payment plans for those who are uninsured or need financial assistance.

Cracked Teeth Treatment

Dr. Khan and the expert staff at Sweet Tooth Smiles can tell you with certainty whether you have cracked teeth requiring treatment.

Patients with cracked teeth often experience pain when chewing, are sensitive to temperatures, and sometimes have difficulty biting down. It is possible that your pain levels come and go, making it difficult to pinpoint whether you have an issue or not.

What Can Happen if Cracked Teeth Go Untreated?

Leaving your cracked teeth untreated can lead to subsequent problems down the road. Chewing causes the cracked pieces to move, leading to more irritation. The sharp pain you experience when biting down can also increase as the crack gets worse. Eventually, you will experience constant pain even when not chewing.

If you leave a cracked tooth untreated for a long period of time, it can eventually lead to a split tooth. A split tooth is harder to save. If detected and treated early enough, the endodontist may be able to save a portion of the tooth.

In any case, the best thing for root canals or cracked teeth is early detection. If you believe you may have cracked teeth, please schedule a consultation with our office as soon as possible.
